Background and Interest in Governance
I have a Grandson in year 1 and got to know the school while he was in reception. I have been hugely impressed by the school setting, staff and culture and felt that I could contribute to this wonderful community by becoming a Governor.
My background is in Business forecasting, planning, analytics and people leadership. During my (long) career I have also undertaken pro bono work for national charities, leading to efficiencies and cost savings. After taking early retirement from American Express in 2021 I have served part time contracts with Brighton University and East Sussex fire & rescue. This has given me an understanding of the challenges facing voluntary and funded settings. I feel that my knowledge and skills are all transferable, and could make a positive contribution to the governing body. I come from an educational background, both parents and my sister were teachers, and from them I understand some of the challenges and rewards.
From a personal perspective I am invested in the education of my grandchildren and their peers at Bevendean, and I also feel it beneficial to remain active in mind & body going into retirement, and above all never stop learning!
Hobbies and interests
I swim or practise yoga every other day, and am an avid reader (mostly thrillers). I love spending as much time as possible with my Grandchildren and seem to have much more time/patience for the “why do” conversations than I did with my own children.
I enjoy gardening, crafts, food and the outdoors, all my family are enthusiastic foragers. I am gradually travelling around the world (in bi-annual fortnightly periods until I fully retire).
