SEND

Mary Crowley and Rhiannon Jones, our Inclusion Managers/SENCOs.

At Bevendean, we have two SENCOs working across the school. We are always available to speak to parents and carers either in person, over the phone or on the playground. We believe working collaboratively with parents/carers, pupils and other agencies leads to the best outcomes for our children. Relationships are at the core of this work and as a school we pride ourselves on going above and beyond when possible.

We pride ourselves in being an inclusive, nurturing, kind and supportive school. We have a large SEND community which we highly value and feel is such a strength of our school. At Bevendean, we are lucky enough to benefit from a vast amount of green outdoor space including a wildlife area and pond, 3 playgrounds and 2 fields. This is available to support all children with emotional and sensory regulation. We also have a dedicated sensory room along with sensory areas positioned throughout the school.  Most year groups benefit from small class sizes enabling a calm learning environment and increased teacher time.

We are able to offer a large amount of effective interventions delivered by our specific intervention TAs and class TAs throughout the school. We have staff trained to deliver: NHS Speech and Language plans, Lego Therapy, Narrative Groups, Early Years and KS1 Talk Boost, Precision Teach, Busy Hands, Memory Magic, Just Right and Can Do Club. In addition, teachers and/or class TAs deliver pre-teach interventions and interventions following live marking. Daily readers and regular readers happens throughout the school as well as times tables and handwriting groups.

We are very much supported by the Brighton and Hove Inclusion Support Service (BHISS) who support individual children, class teachers and lead whole school training. We receive support from the Autism and Language team, SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) Behaviour team, LSS (Literacy Support Service).

We offer parent workshops (lead by ourselves or outside professionals) with a specific focus and coffee mornings, throughout the school year. These will be added to the school calendar with reminders sent out via the school app. Previous workshops have included: social anxiety, behaviour that challenges, Just Right, healthy sleep, puberty, transitions, cooking.

We warmly welcome visitors so please do give us a call to arrange a visit soon. If your child has any additional needs, please let us know so that we can meet with you on your visit.
