Nursery

The Nursery Team are Mrs King (Class Teacher), Miss Davis-Carr (TA) and Miss Coomb (TA)
Our Nursery is open 2 and a half days a week.
In Autumn 1 our topic is ‘Ourselves’. Our main stories during this term are ‘Goat goes to Playgroup’ , ‘Brown Bear Brown Bear’ and ‘Rosie’s Walk’. We focus on settling in to the nursery and learning how to increase our independence in self-care and beginning to share toys with others.
In Autumn 2 our topic is ‘Owl Babies’. Our main stories are ‘Owl Babies’ and ‘Little Owl learns to fly’. We learn all about how the weather changes in Autumn, how the leaves fall off the trees and how there are lots of little animals who live in the woods. Then around the beginning of December we begin to practice the songs for our Christmas performance and to make Christmas presents and decorations.
In Spring 1 our topic is ‘The Farmyard’. Our main stories are ‘Rosie’s Walk’ and ‘Farmer Duck’.We learn all about farm animals and the products which come from farms. We have a role playing farm shop and we sing lots of songs about farm animals.
In Spring 2 our topic is ‘Fairytales’. We read the stories ‘Little Red Riding Hood’, ‘Goldilocks’ and ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’. We re-tell the stories by acting them out while the teacher narrates and by using puppets.
In Summer 1 our topic is ‘Growing’. We read the story ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ and we grow our own butterflies from caterpillars. We also have tadpoles in a tank and we love watching them develop. We grow beans in little flower pots which we take home when they are big enough.
In Summer 2 our topic is ‘Holidays’. We have a role playing aeroplane and lots of pop up tents and dens so that we can play at camping. We read the story ‘The Train Ride’ and ‘Keep away from the water, Shirley’. We also visit the Reception classes and begin to prepare for moving up in the Autumn time.
