Year 4

The Year 4 team are Mr Omoyinmi (Class Teacher), Mrs White (Class Teacher) Mrs Hosmer (HLTA) and Miss Garoghan (TA).
In the Autumn term, we learn about The Victorians. Our focus for this term is history. We find out about the lives of influential Victorians such as Dr Thomas Barnardo and Pablo Fanque. We learn what life was like for Victorian children and compare it with our lives today. As part of this topic, we run a Victorian day in school where the children get to experience a real Victorian style education (punishments not included!) In science we find out about electricity and circuits as the children create their own quiz boards. We then move onto learning about sound and hearing.
In the Spring term, we learn about Ancient Egypt and visit Brighton Museum. There is a mix between a geography and history focus this term. The children will locate different civilisations on a world map, including the ancient Egyptians. They will find out more about ancient Egyptian culture including hieroglyphics, gods and mummies! In science lessons we focus on biology and learn about the human digestive system including lots of fun experiments.
In the summer term, our topic is Rainforests. Children will grow their understanding of the rainforest biome including the animals that live there and the rainforests importance in the global ecosystem. In science the children will learn more about different states of matter and the processes of melting, freezing, condensation and evaporation.
PE is on Tuesday afternoons – please make sure you have a PE kit (including shoes) in school.
Homework is set half termly and children who achieve the target score get a reward in school. While homework should be independent, please support your child as appropriate. Daily reading at home is also part of our homework expectations. Times table Rockstars should be used to practice your times tables and children are expected to know all tables from 1-12 by the summer term as we complete the Year 4 Multiplication tables check in June. If your child has any issues logging on to TTRS please speak with an adult in school.
