Year 1 have had a wonderful start to the year, they have settled well into their new routine. We have immersed them into their learning through practical activities linked to stories. Our topic this term is Australia. We have looked at human and physical features and compared them to the UK.
We read a book called Clean Up which focused the importance of keeping the world clean. Year 1 looked at plastic pollution and why it is affecting the world that we live in. Furthermore, we looked at why it is important to keep our environment clean. We did a week of poetry where the children looked at different sounds that animals may make. E.g. MOOOOOOOOOO.
We have used the book ‘Knock Knock Superhero’ to support our number bonds and composition of numbers to 20. We also have enhanced our confidence in using the +, - and = sign.
We explored a variety of artists that all use different techniques within their work. We loved looking at local artist ‘Leanne Markwick’ and the children enjoyed recreating her work on animals. Thank you Leanne.
We thank you for your support, please continue to read with your children. It makes a big difference! It has been fantastic to see some children complete every piece of homework. This however, is not the expectation. We have asked to children to accumulate 50 points to earn a prize at the end of term.
